Assistant Professor Environmental Studies Phd Chemistry

Job description

The assistant professor participates in the group’s teaching and research activities.

Teaching:
The group is actively involved in three BSc programmes (Environmental Sciences, Environmental Studies and Science & Innovation Management) and one MSc programme (Sustainable Development). These teaching programmes consist of general courses (e.g. environmental sciences, research methodology), specialized courses (e.g. international environmental governance, sustainable land use, business, sustainability & innovation), and research projects (bachelor and master thesis). The candidate will be responsible for bachelor as well as master courses.

Research:
The group participates in the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development. The main objective of the research program ‘Governance for Sustainable Development’ of the environmental Governance Group is to indentify and analyze ways to bring about sustainable development. Our research focuses on modes of environmental governance, shifts in governance and policy analysis methodologies. Furthermore we are interested in several application fields, like sustainable land-use, international environmental governance, and sustainable production and consumption. The group participates in the national research school SENSE.

Requirements

You are required to be a high potential, which should be visible in your research and teaching record. You have a PhD in a relevant field (e.g. environmental studies, urban and regional planning, public administration, political science) and are able to publish in international peer-reviewed journals and to write research proposals.

We are especially interested in scholars who have experience in the domain of sustainable land use (e.g. urban and regional development, water management, climate adaptation, infrastructure policy, etc.). Research traditions that are considered interesting are case-study research, institutional analyses, and stakeholder analyses.

You have to be able to meet the requirements of the so-called ‘basic teaching qualifications’ (BKO) from Utrecht University within 1 year. Furthermore you should have excellent communication skills. In addition to proficiency in English, fluency in Dutch is a requirement.

Furthermore you should have a strong background in teaching and curriculum development. Finally, you should be a team player, that is to say should be able to cooperate well with other members of the research group and with members of affiliated research groups.

Conditions of employment

We offer a full-time position for the period of two years.

Your salary depends on your qualifications and experiences and is based on scale 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of the Dutch Universities (minimum € 3,195 maximum € 4,374 gross).

The gross salary is supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8% and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3% per year. In addition we offer e.g.: a pension scheme and partially paid parental leave and flexible employment conditions.
